Twin Brides Share Their Pre-wedding Ceremony

Today’s ‘double happiness’ comes to us in a slightly different form! Not only has Rupa Photography given us behind-the-scenes footage of pre-wedding festivities, but today’s cultural preparations are in anticipation of…wait for it…not one but TWO weddings and TWO beautiful brides. TWINS to be exact!

Staring Sisters: Sonal and Sajal

Twin sisters – Sonal & Sajal, fused their pre-wedding, Indian ceremonies as a loving nod to their heritage!  Together they celebrated the Grah Shanti and Pithi Ceremonies, two practices that are heavily family oriented. The religious, Grah Shanti Ceremony is where a priest dedicates a prayer of peace graced with rice, coconut, wheat grains, oil, betel nuts and turmeric for the couples. Decorative ceramic pottery, occasionally referred to as earthware, are carried full of water by the brides’ mother and female relatives to water a delicate stalk in celebration of the twins’ marriages. The beautifying Pithi Ceremony is where Sonal & Sajal are cleansed with rose water, herbs, and auspicious turmeric powder in request for easement of obstacles.

Note this different take of the bouquet and garter toss: There is a belief that if the bride or groom rub Pithi onto someone who is matured and unmarried it will increase the possibility of marriage in that individual’s future.

Can you say GIFT BASKET?!!! These baskets of lovelies are given to the bride-to-be by her groom and his family. These presents will robe her on the wedding day making her princesseque in symbolic sari threading and glimmer in be-gemmed jewels.
