{Real Wedding} Indian & Scottish Affair

This week has been all about shedding light  on some really cute and creative ideas in event design and style.  Whether it’s converting the classic guest sign book to a vintage photo puzzle or conjuring up your inner shabby french Provencal style, the focus has been on details and dream palettes.  But it wouldn’t be a complete without a real fusion wedding inspiration, and today I give the honors to the amazing Caroline Weiss of Candysnaps photography, based out of Scotland for this beautiful and spicy spread.

Setting: Glasgow, Scotland

Heroine/ Hero: Indian Bride – Sumi and her Scottish Beau – Fraser

Photographer: Candysnaps photography

Scene #1: EASTERN WEDDING

As you know there are lots of traditional rituals involved with Indian weddings, each with a symbolic meaning.  From getting the bride all dolled up and cleaned with turmeric, to the arrival of the groom and his family to the ceremony site…and everything in between.  I’ve talked about the different facets of Hindu wedding customs, so this time I’ll let the pictures do the talking this time.

I’m loving the strong contrast of the blue saris worn by the bridal party, with the bold red worn by Sumi, the bride.  It makes for a striking color palette inspiration.

Here’s what Sumi told Love My Dress regarding her overall style and aesthetic:

“The priest who married us is a family friend whom I’ve known since I was young, and he was brilliant at explaining the ceremony to our guests (and to us!!) as we went along.” Sumi explained. “We really didn’t want it to be an all cream and beige wedding if you know what I mean, (not that there’s anything wrong with that of course!) and so we had it all bright, fun and colorful.  We basically wanted to have a big party with all our friends and family to celebrate the fact that we were getting married, and that’s exactly what we did. Such a cliche, but having fun and enjoying every minute of it is the best way to do it! And we had an absolute ball – With the music, we had a piper during the Hindu ceremony, and had a total mix of everything – a jazz band, a ceilidh, some Bollywood numbers, some Bhangra and the rest – good old fashioned disco!”

And a big party, they certainly had.  Following the traditional eastern ceremony was the western throw down, complete with a effortlessly chic white gown, vintage jewelry from the 1950s and all sorts of dance.

Scene #2: WESTERN WEDDING

What it is about men in kilts, that just makes me happy.  The photo of the beautiful couple against that majestic tree is one of my favorites.

“We just feel really lucky as we had all our amazing friends and family with us, and we had SO MUCH fun, we literally loved every minute of it! Having a ‘fusion’ wedding…we wanted to have a celebration and a bit of a mish-mash of different cultures, people, music, everything”

-Sumi, The Bride-

Beautiful!  If you missed our other Indian and Scottish wedding set in the Himalayan mountains, then you’re in for a treat.
