{Real Wedding} Solid Gold Soul – Starla & Thomas

I’m mentally preparing myself for the 24-hour air travel that awaits me and my now, 7 1/2 month old.  She’s crawling, touching everything…and teething! Need I say more?  So in the spirit of diversion, inspiration and allowing my brain to day dream over the total opposite of my current mood.   I’m taking another journey… a soulful journey into a wedding where music flows, authentic style reigns and great photography captures it all. Lauren McGlynn seduced me with her Texas-based portfolio, only to find out that she and her husband would be relocating to Scotland.  So sad for us North Americans, but wonderful for the UK crew.  Yes, she is international, however all you Brits and Scots, make sure you check her out.

Setting: Lawrence, Kansas

Heroine/ Hero: African-American Bride – Starla and her Caucasian-American Beau – Thomas

Photography: Lauren McGlynn Photography

Scene #1: AUX NATURELLE & GOLD From the moment I laid eyes on Starla’s wedding dress, made with love and passion by her grandmother, I knew this would be an awesome wedding.  I’ve fawned over the magnificence of gold wedding dresses before, so to see it strutted with confidence and style in a real wedding?  Twas like golden christmas in summer! Scene #2: LIBATIONS & TEARS OF JOY Starla and Thomas had a unique and very touching outdoor ceremony performed by the groom’s sister.  During this picturesque ceremony, the emotional couple walked down the aisle together, sprinkled libations, gave flowers to family as a gesture of honor and gratitude, and closed the ceremony with a traditional African American wedding custom – Jumping the Broom. Scene #3: LIVE WEDDING MARCH The ceremony was followed by a  New Orleans style wedding march through the town to Liberty Hall, a historic venue that showcases live concerts and art-house films. Wedding Music Idea: One creative way to infuse culture into your wedding is through a wedding march.  Surprise your guests with a live band that will lead the group to the reception venue.  This works well with Jazz bands, Mariachi, Salsa, Soca, Bagpipes or Bikutsi..to name a few. This wedding makes me smile so much. The wedding seems to capture the couple’s personality to a tee – joyful, creative and an appreciation for life.
