Cream, White and Gold Inspiration

Earlier today, we were inspired by the captivating table scapes of Swedish stylist – Lo Bjurulf.  The fact that the products are from Ikea, immediately breaks down any doubts about accessibility and affordability.  Crafty style doesn’t equate to being domestic or pedestrian. At least that’s the main concern for our next bride-to-be from Washington DC.

Aleeya is an Indian bride, who will getting married in a traditional catholic wedding to her Italian groom. She described her style as “crafty, minimalist, and creative with a sense of drama.”  Because she and her event planner/sister will be doing all the decorations themselves, she requested a dream palette that would encompass DIY style, drama and a sense of modern elegance.

Inspiration: Arts, Crafts & Goddess

Aleeya’s signature colors are gold, white and khaki linen.  She’s requested a wedding dream palette that reflects something a little more than convention.  “I want the drama to be in the crafty details and not scream bollywood, which is what most people would expect.  My fiance and I are pretty low maintenance, but I do want a little marie antoinette drama.  Just a little”  So here are the facts:

Ethnicity/ Heritage: Indian American bride marrying Roman Catholic Groom.

Date: January, 2011 (Winter).

Color: Gold, Khaki & White.

Style: Crafty, Modern & Dramatic.

Dream Palette #88: CRAFTY GODDESS

Colors: Gold, Khaki, Linen White

Challenge: Design a Hindu/Catholic Winter wedding that’s modern, crafty and fresh.

How you do it: 1. Pick a muted color palette.  “Modern” and “fresh” evokes clean colors such as clear whites, linens, pastels and shimmer overlays.  You can always add drama to a light palette, by playing with texture.  Since it’s a winter wedding, the idea of frost and snow is always a great launching pad  2.  Modern style is working with the space not forcing it. You can incorporate traditional scripture (such as Sanskrit, Mandarin, Hebrew, Arabic or Swahili) into modern architecture (such as museums or lofts) in a way that’s unobtrusive.  In this case, you use large paper rolls to design Sanskrit flooring (or walls).  3.  The Drama is in the details. Yarn ribbons on porcelain spoons.  High ceilings with paper origami and lanterns.  Feather headpieces and head wraps instead of traditional veils.  These are all examples of how to switch it up.  4.  Color coordinate your guests. You could even go as far as request all your guests to dress in the color scheme of your wedding, and picking one item to break the trend color such as your dress, bouquet or cake.  Just note that if you’re doing this be considerate when selecting the colors.  It’s customary to state your wishes very clearly in the invitation and provide suggestions on places to shop.

Okay, Aleeya.  I hope this puts you on a confident path.  Happy planning.
