Jumping the Broom Wedding

The classic definition of “Fusion,” among many others is: a merging of diverse, distinct, or separate elements into a unified whole.  By taking elements of heritage, style and personal taste, and bringing them together on your wedding day in a way that seems effortless, requires the true collaboration of professional artists who understand your vision, and will do what it takes to bring it to life.

So today, it gives me great pleasure to introduce another exciting wedding event triumvirate: Captivating photography in the work of David Baxter of Ohana Photographers, elegant event design by Red Letter Days, and a wedding story that’s worth retelling over and over.  It’s the tale of Kim & Cory.

Setting: San Diego, CA

Heroine & Hero: African American Bride – Kim and her “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” Beau – Cory

Photography: Ohana Photographers

Scene #1: GETTING READY IN RANCHO SANTA FE Kim, the bride, was very clear on what mood she wanted to evoke on her big day.  “From the start I wanted the wedding to represent both of us and to have our personalities really shine through in different details through out the day.”  Kim said.  “I would say the overall feel of the day was casual elegance. I wanted it to be beautiful but not stuffy.” Scene #2: THE CEREMONY Add a splash of pink to any space (indoor or out) and you’ve got yourself an “un-stuffy” gig.  Then when you include specialty imported beer, African American marriage customs and a Mexican wedding march, you’ve got yourself a spicy love story that’s totally unique.

THE BOX OF A THOUSAND WISHES:

As part of their ceremony, Kim and Cory chose to add a little personality to the vow exchange.  The couple had an anniversary box in which they placed two bottles of wine.   “One bottle was from France (where we got in engaged) and the other was from Spain a place neither of us have been to but would like to go to together.”  Kim explained.  “We also included letters to each other and a copy of our save-the-date and our wedding invitation. We will open this box on our five year anniversary.”

In celebration of Kim’s African American heritage, the couple closed their ceremony by jumping the Broom, a tradition that symbolizes the beginning of a new life as one. Here’s another wedding that incorporated jumping of the broom in their southern style event. Coming up later today, you’ll see part two of Kim and Cory’s tale with all the reception details.  You won’t want to miss a thing.

This wedding was cute and classy! I love the theme colors, and I’m partial to outdoor weddings. This is a beautiful couple with an equally beautiful wedding.
