…Mother’s day is really for everyone else. What do I mean by that?
It all began this morning, May 9th. The plan was to wake up to the aroma of fried sausages, scrambled organic eggs, orange juice and the sound of mother’s day bliss. You see, today, for the first time I can actually say mother’s day applies to me…or so I thought. If you’ve been following, you know that last December, my husband and I celebrated the arrival of our first child – Nahla. Five months later, I can honestly say that not only do I have a new found respect for all mother’s out there, I truly can’t understand how my own mother let me get away with half the things I did.

I expected Mother’s day to be MY DAY. My time to sleep, relax and do absolutely nothing. I know what you’re thinking: Things fell apart in the kitchen and I had to take over…actually, quite the contrary. Everything was going great. My husband and 5 month-old stormed the kitchen with one purpose: to make mommy’s favorite breakfast. All I had to do was stay in bed. But like the type-A personality that I am, I decided to check my website to make sure things were running smoothly, and THAT’s where the cracks began.

My computer got hacked by a destructive virus, preventing any posts this morning. Sounds like nothing really, but getting hacked feels so invasive. More than that, you have no control over it, and therein lies the problem. Control! I don’t know how many mother’s are reading this, but once you have an infant, your schedule is pretty much a luck of the draw. To me, Wedding Nouveau is not only a resource for others, it’s been my sanity cushion, my saving grace in times of frustration, my control. The fact that I got so worked up over a virus, shed some light on how much I need an outlet sometimes, and more importantly, the balancing act that all mother’s must face in order to maintain who they are at the core. I am a wife, mother, an artist, a writer, a business woman…a girl from Cameroon who love movies, chocolate, eighties commercials, family history photos travel, and so much more.

There are only so many things you can control. Your body, your mind, your choices, and the way you respond to stress. Technical problems in the world of web business, are as rampant as wigs at a VHI Diva concert. In my frustration to resolve the hacked virus issue this morning, I neglected to show my gratitude and excitement over my husbands valiant efforts. I got off the phone with technical support to see him and my daughter sitting quietly at the table, with my breakfast covered in aluminium foil. That’s when it hit me:
Today, Mother’s day is really for him. It’s his time to show me how much he cares. Granted, he tells me how much he loves me everyday, but today of all days, is his official pass into the appreciation major leagues. For me, Mother’s day is everyday. Or so it’s been for the past five months: a trying, euphoric, exhilarating, frustrating and ultimately…rewarding five months. I look forward to 5000 more. But for my husband and friends, Mother’s day is a day to show some love and as they say in cooler circles: “Give Props” to mothers.

So here’s to all you mother’s out there who are sitting back and watching your loved ones show some love. You are the champions of your home, the foundation of your family tree, and the ambassador of what humanity represents. To all you (and me) mother’s out there…Mother’s day may not be for you, but it’s yours to cherish like every other day of the year. So run with it:-)
