Ghanaian American Whimsy

The beauty of Karin Von Voigtlander photography continues with part 2 of Indira and Nevin’s Catonsville, MD wedding.  As we mentioned in part 1, there were endless sources of do-it-yourself inspiration.  From customized shoes, banners and pinwheels to whimsical Gnome centerpieces.

Scene #4: THE CHEERY DETAILS

I’ve already talked of how many details from the wedding were obtained from etsy, adding a personal touch and creative flair to the event.  The couple and their 150 friends and family danced the night away to the “gentle strains of Motown and Soul classics.”

Challenge: How do you cut on cost, not style when planning your wedding?

How They did it (A Bride’s Perspective)? 1. Go for the all-in-one package.  By securing a wedding venue that had in-house catering and a free wedding coordinator, the couple was able to eliminate a substantial amount of stress as well as incidental costs.  2. Use a local vendor to purchase your alcohol, separate from the catering company (if possible).  According to Indira, buying their own alcohol saved them thousands  of dollars while allowing them to have a full bar for the entire evening.  3. Take advantage of the many talents and connections around you. In this case, the couple’s friends volunteered to write out all of the place cards, as well as secure wholesale prices on unique invitations and wedding literature .  4. Book your vendors early.  Often times, early bookings allow for added perks such as possible discounts.  In this case, the DJ offered a 30% discount for early booking.

and finally, and most important in my book…

5. The right accessories boosts your stock. Indira bought her gown from David’s Bridal for under $500 and accessorized it with a separately purchased ruffled bolero and vintage dress clips from Etsy. “My birdcage veil was custom designed and purchased from Unveiled Designs for just over $150.00.” Indira said.  “It cost far less than it would have had I purchased it from other retailers. My reception dress was purchased online in a closeout sale and the matching fascinator and shoe clips was were custom made by a local Etsy vendor. In all, my attire cost $1,200, allowing me to splurge on my Christian Louboutin shoes AND come in under budget!”

I typically end my features with advice from the bride, but with all the savvy tips mentioned, who needs an extra quotes?  It’s no wonder why you can’t help but fall in love with every single detail.  Historic location, Modern romance, and budget friendly Style…now that’s the perfect recipe.

Congrats again to I & N on your wedding.  Thank you so much to Karin of Karin Von Voigtlander Photography, for the inspiring images.

That certainly is the perfect recipe! Such a lovely wedding…I really like the
little details throughout…the little cake trays and fruit — how fun and very
unique this is!
