{Real Wedding} Traditional Japanese Affair – Jane & Daisuke’s (Part II)

Here it is, the sequel to Jane & Daisuke’s two-part vintage & traditional wedding in Japan.

Scene #3: A SACRED SHRINE CEREMONY

Background on Shinto Style Weddings:

A Shinto style wedding ceremony is performed before a Shinto sanctuary set up for the occasion, unless the wedding takes place in a Shinto shrine, or in this case – The Higashi Fushimi Shrine. The ceremony is presided by a Shinto priest who first holds the purification service of all present (usually attended by members of both families and close relatives).

The “San-San-Kudo” or ceremony of the Three-Three-Nine-Times Exchange of nuptial cups is then performed by the couple, followed by a customary practice in the sanctuary in which twigs of “Sakaki” sacred tree are offered in worship to the Shinto gods.  Drinks of “Sake” are then exchanged between members of the both families to signify their union through the wedding.

Scene #4: REVERENCE AND FUN.

I’m realizing that when it comes to weddings, the term “destination” is truly relative.  In this case, it was a trip to remember for the bride’s family as this was the first time visiting Japan for many of her guests.

Scene #5: MINIMALIST & DELICIOUS

If there’s anywhere you’re bound to find unapologetically delicious sushi, it’s Japan…for obvious reasons.  Jane and Daisuke had an intimate reception of 30 guests to share their family-style seating.

“Keep an open-mind, remember that it’s sometimes easier to go with the flow.  Do make sure that your wishes/concerns are acknowledged however, as to not be bullied into anything.  Sometimes there may be a compromise that works for all.”
