“Dance: (d
ns) – v. danced, danc·ing, danc·es . v.intr. 1. To move rhythmically usually to music, using prescribed or improvised steps and gestures.”…or so it says in Webster’s Dictionary. Music? Yes. Rhythm? sometimes. Improvised? Absolutely.
When it comes to receptions, most guests look forward to two things: The Booze and the dancing. If the food is delicious, that’s an added bonus, but really it’s all about the last two – four hours of the night. Typically by this time, Aunt Lorraine has had three too many Mint Julip’s and Cousin Mike’s about to hook up with one of your bridesmaid’s whom he just met. All of these plot points unfolding wonderfully on the gel-lit dance floor, accompanied by Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” or Earth, Wind and Fire’s “September.”
It’s all about the dance party. As always, every culture expresses itself “rhythmically” in many different and inspiring ways.
Here’s the first of several Global Dance Style Dream palettes inspired by dance forms (choreographed or not) from around the world, starting with Russia.
