When Onida sent me her wedding photographs, I knew we were in for a delicious treat. Not only is she the starring bride of this feature, she’s also the creative eye and visionary behind her successful event planning business – Opulent Creations Events, that offers luxury designs for weddings out of the DC/Maryland/VA Area, as well as destination weddings. Tunji Sarumi was the amazing photographer for their wedding day.
Setting: Maryland
Heroine & Hero: Jamaican-American Bride – Onida and her Dominican-Puerto Rican Groom – Brian…or as Onida puts it: “Jamerican” Bride and her “Dom Rican” Groom. LOVE IT!
Colors: Chocolate Brown, Gold, Champagne & Ivory
Scene #1: THE BRIDE AND HER BLUSHING MAIDENS…
The junior bride is just precious. The shot of her getting her hair done brings back many wonderful and often times painful memories for me.

Scene #2: “I DO” DETAILS
Who says you have to restrict your palette to neutrals and cool shades just because it’s winter? Onida’s choice of vibrant calla lillies against the frost bitten background proves that even in winter, you can spice things up with bold colors.

I think the photo directly above with the fur coat and bouquet has to be one of my favorite shots in Wedding Nouveau history. It’s a simple yet wonderful way of embracing the location (temperature and all), while celebrating one’s inner spirit with bold color and modern style.
Scene #3: I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU “CHARMING & FABULOUS”
(Above: Fox Fur coat – Family Heirloom; Ceremony at St. Matthew United Methodist church)
Scene #4: AN OPULENT VISION…
As an already established event planner, finalizing her wedding details didn’t seem to be problem. Rather, when asked what challenges were faced while planning, Onida’s response was honest. “I planned my entire wedding from New Jersey.” Onida Said, “It was very challenging to make the weekend trips to Maryland once or twice a month to meet with vendors.” It’s a challenge, but it can be done, and the proof is in the fabulous wedding details of Onida and Daniel’s Reception.

The gift box centerpiece had me envisioning a gift wedding cake. As a matter of fact, for a quick second, I thought it was the actual wedding cake.

“Get a planner to at least assist you with the day of coordination. It is vital for your sanity. Also don’t feel pressured to sign a contract with a vendor during the first meeting. Shop around and don’t be afraid to ask for a discount.”
