{Real Wedding} Art Deco Romance

There’s nothing more encouraging than a bride who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it done. Natalie is one such bride, who’s intimate November wedding to Brian was a waltz of romantic ruffles, art deco style and peacock feathers.  I knew the minute I saw her wedding photos, that it’d be perfect for you today, and it couldn’t have happened without the photographic eye of Toronto based photographer Jenny Uy of Zuni Photography.

Setting: Toronto

Heroine & Hero: Canadian Bride – Natalie and her American Groom – Brian

Colors: Purple and Gold

Scene #1: THE AURA OF AN ART DECO SETTING

Wedding plans for their Toronto event began a year before hand in the U.S .  One of the biggest challenges that Natalie faced involved communicating with vendors, as most of the correspondence was done by email and phone calls. I can’t recall what people did before the arrival of emails.  Does anyone remember?

Scene #2: AN INTIMATE CEREMONY

Natalie and Brian chose the Historic George Brown House in Toronto  for the setting of their big day.  Built in 1876, this historic landmark of crystal chandeliers, marble and rich ebony wood had hidden art deco secrets in the details.

I am absolutely loving the ruffled wrap, that Natalie is wearing.  It works perfectly with her gown.

Natalie chose purple and gold as her signature colors, and I must say she executed that quite nicely.  From peacock accents (which symbolize harmony and eternal love), to rich colored flowers, every single detail was well thought out.  “My taste is not traditional” Says Natalie, “So I wanted my bouquet to be different.  I picked calla lilies for my flowers because of their sculptural beauty, simplicity,  and urban edge.  Also, the calla lilies complimented the Art Deco/Art Nouveau character of George Brown House and fit in perfectly with the contemporary design of Canoe Restaurant.”

Scene #3: CANOE CELEBRATIONS

According to Natalie, Brian felt strongly about having the reception at Canoe restaurant “because of its stunning views of Toronto Islands.”  Details like this should not be overlooked when trying to find subtle ways to celebrate your location, especially your out of town guests.  In this case, their 45 guests were made to feel home in Toronto.

In addition to the bride’s mother making traditional Jamaican Rum cake to celebrate her heritage, the DJ made sure to add a little Caribbean spice to the music selection.

“The Biggest Challenge was saying “No.”  The wedding industry tells brides that they need to have everything!  I tried to focus on what was really important and would be memorable to all!”

Thank you so much to Natalie for reaching out to share the story of her lovely wedding.  It’s like eye candy to my “I wish I could do it all over again”-Soul.  Do check out Jenny Uy’s work at Zuni Photography for more from her portfolio.

Really gorgeous and rich! We LOVE the photos. Amazing, and what a gorgeous setting. Congrats the bride and groom and we’re so happy we created a little part of this fabulous day.

All the best wishes from across the pond.

(On a funny little note, it seems most of our brides also love Bonzie’s work. We’re so happy to often be featured in the same weddings. How fun!)

Yes, I’m so glad I’ve been put on to Bonzie’s work, Gorgeous. I agree with you Sarah, peacock accents always add character, when appropriately done.
