Sukkot Jewish Thanksgiving.

Yesterday, my colleagues at work surprised me with a lovely baby shower, that just made my heart melt.  I won’t go into too much detail, as we’ve got some more inspiration boards to day dream in, but I will say that my good friend and maestro of baked goods, Glenn of Glenn the Baker, designed a charming little baby shower cake number inspired by Marie Antoinette.  Will show you pictures as soon as I get my hands on them.  It certainly wasn’t a bad way to end a Monday.

Today, we’re turning a chapter to Hebrew tradition, by way of gold harvest, grey accents and the pale blue bliss.  I’m talking about the Jewish Harvest Festival of Sukkot (or “Succoth”), one of the overlooked and lesser known holidays among non-jewish communities.  This seven day event follows Yom Kippur,  and begins on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Tishrei (usually September or October).  Succoth revolves around holy prayers, family-shared meals, and celebrating the spirit of harvest in a Sukkah – an outdoor tent/ shed with a kosher grain roof thatching.  I also read that it’s quite normal for modern Sukkahs to be covered in Blue and Gold Fabric.  Cha Ching!!!!

Wedding Tradition Ideas:

I think incorporating a Sukkah into your rustic outdoor fall reception would make for a charming and delightful Jewish wedding touch.  Still celebrates the outdoors, as well as tradition.  Plus, there’s tons of style options that you could adopt for the decor.  Here are some more links to learn more about the Festival of Tabernacles (more commonly known as Succoth), as well as more Jewish wedding traditions.
