Wedding Couture Idea | Modern Kimono – Who says you can’t have both?

by Fri B. on November 5, 2009 · 5 comments

A few weeks ago, during the International performance wedding series, we did a Kabuki Theatre-inspired board that got a lot of positive response.  One of the dresses in particular sparked a lot of interest, so I decided to follow up and find out more.

Well, thanks to Kerry of Toledo Kimono Experience,  I’ve been introduced to the innovative creations of a fabulous designer named Anna Niponica.  She takes the pure silk of Japanese kimonos and remakes them into WHATEVER fashion style you’d like.  That’s right…now you can have your kimono and wear it too, without feeling overwhelmed by the layers and dress protocol normally required for a more traditional look.  And, because each of her pieces are custom made, you get to express your sense of style while maintaining a strong cultural aesthetic.  Win, win!

It’s dreaming outside the box like this, that make me so happy…and it’s only Thursday!

Spicyhugs,

Fri
