Monday’s off to a very spicy start. The theme for this week (and I say that with the disclaimer, that I reserve the right to be distracted by shiny hyperlinks and inventive new designs:-)…. is Worldly Wedding Couture. I’m talkin’ intricate bridal fashion from non western cultures that make you say “Slap-Me-It’s-So-Gorgeous” Couture!
There’s a growing trend these days for bridal wear to be in color. I’m hear to say there’s more to color than just subtle dye and gray or light blue. Oh no. It’s about bold Hues, accentuating fits, depth of textures and beads, and a new definition of white…
…The KEBAYA.

In certain parts of East Asia, such as Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore or Indonesia, wearing a bridal Kebaya is a great way for you to infuse your country’s culture into your modern wedding. I’m think it’s also a sure way to turn heads:-) The kebaya is a form or traditional blouse, made from diaphanous materials, and is worn with a songket, a sarong, batik or any traditional knitted garment that has a colorful and detailed motif. Many designers are also experimenting with different gossamer fabrics like lace, to create more delicate and appealing bridal kebayas.
Whether it’s the traditional and covered up look to the haute and hot approach, Kebayas can easily be the starting point for designing your entire wedding.
So without further adieu, here’s a compilation of a vast array of stylish gowns influenced by the Kebaya aesthetic.

I’m always for the idea of kebayas getting more recognition on the international stage (as evident from the rants on my blog entries). Thanks for the feature! :)
Hello,
